At Bluebird Care Central Bedfordshire, our team is made up of passionate people who go above and beyond every day. This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Dawn, our Area Manager, who has been part of the Bluebird Care family since 2012. Starting as a care worker, Dawn progressed to Supervisor, then Area Manager, and now plays a vital role in ensuring the highest quality of care for our customers.
What does your role as Area Manager involve?
“My job as Area Manager is all about supporting both our customers and our care experts. I meet new customers across Leighton Buzzard and Dunstable, gathering all the important details needed to create their personalised care plan. This ensures our carers have the right information to support each customer safely and with confidence.”
How do you make sure customers continue to receive the best care?
“I carry out regular reviews with customers, making sure everything is running smoothly and addressing any concerns they might have. If something needs to be improved, I work closely with the customer and the care team to find the best solution.”
What about supporting the care team?
“I supervise our carers to make sure they’re confident and carrying out their roles correctly. I’m always available if they need advice or help — no question is ever too small.”
What does quality assurance mean in your role?
“Each month, I audit medication records (MAR charts) and care notes to make sure everything is accurate and safe. I also review care plans and carer files to keep all information up to date, and ensure everyone is meeting their training requirements.”
How do you manage the day-to-day operations?
“I look after the rostering for Leighton Buzzard and Dunstable, handle holiday and sickness cover, and carry out 1-to-1s and appraisals with carers in the Central and East areas. It’s all about making sure everything runs smoothly and our carers feel supported.”
What do you enjoy most about your job?
“I love that no two days are the same — every day brings a new challenge and a new opportunity to make a difference. I’m proud to be part of a team that genuinely cares about what we do.”
