🧠 Continuing the Conversation: Amelia’s Story of Supporting Someone with Dementia.
This week, we sat down with Amelia, one of our dedicated Care Experts who has been with Bluebird Care for over seven years. In a heartfelt interview, she shared her experience of supporting a gentleman living with dementia, and how their relationship has evolved over time.
Amelia talked about the importance of maintaining a sense of identity and dignity — whether that’s through enjoying tea and cake at a garden centre, humming along to a favourite tune, or simply taking time to sit, talk, and truly listen. As the gentleman’s dementia progressed, Amelia and her colleagues adapted their approach to provide more intensive, personal care — using ceiling hoists for transfers, ensuring his grooming and comfort, and delivering care at his pace, in a way that respects his personality and needs.
It’s a powerful reminder of how care is not just about practical support — it’s about understanding the whole person, and doing everything we can to help them feel safe, valued, and respected.
💙 Thank you, Amelia, for sharing your experience and for your continued compassion and care.
