This Learning Disability Week, we want to introduce you to someone truly special: Jill.
To some, the words “learning disability” might conjure limiting assumptions. But if you take a moment to really see Jill, you’ll discover a woman who is full of life, joy, and resilience.
Jill is always on the go. She loves getting out and about, whether that’s visiting her mum for the day, enjoying the thrills of Clacton Pier rides, or browsing her favourite charity shops in search of cuddly toys (for herself and her beloved dog, Elsa). She attends Sailship, where she gets involved with meaningful projects and connections, and she never misses the Bluebell Community Centre’s social group on the last Thursday of every month.
Jill finds joy in the little things – knitting, colouring in her favourite books, or simply enjoying a shopping trip. But she’s also someone who marks life’s big moments with heart: releasing balloons at a memorial to remember loved ones.
Our Care Supervisor, Diana, describes her beautifully:
“Incredibly strong willed and able to cope well with things that are thrown at her that an ordinary person would never be able to cope with. She’s a strong lady, a good lady, and she’s very sweet.”
Jill’s strength is undeniable – but so is her warmth, her kindness, and her zest for life.
