World Alz MonthAs part of World Alzheimer's Month, we want to share some simple, thoughtful ways to help make everyday life a little easier for someone living with dementia.
Dementia can affect memory, reasoning, and daily routines — but with the right support, people can continue to live well at home. Whether you’re a family carer or supporting someone professionally, here are some gentle tips to keep in mind:

  • Stick to a routine – Bathing, dressing, and mealtimes feel more manageable when they happen at regular times each day.
  • Write it down – Help them keep a notebook or calendar for to-do lists, appointments, and reminders.
  • Plan enjoyable activities – Try to schedule activities they love at the same time each day to create rhythm and comfort.
  • Support with medications – A visual reminder system (like a chart or organiser) can make a big difference.
  • Keep it simple – Choose comfortable, easy-to-manage clothing (elastic waistbands, Velcro fasteners, etc.) to promote independence.
  • Safe bathing – A sturdy shower chair and gentle, step-by-step instructions can help make washing a calm and safe experience.
  • Create a calm mealtime – Familiar places, consistent routines, and unrushed time to eat can reduce distress.
  • Most of all, be kind, patient, and reassuring. A calm, respectful approach helps preserve dignity and creates a sense of safety.
At Bluebird Care, we specialise in supporting people living with dementia — in their own homes, on their own terms. We work with families every day to bring comfort, routine, and peace of mind.
