“What’s happened to me?” – A Journey of Love, Courage and Care
This Dementia Action Week, we want to share a powerful and deeply touching story from one of our customers, Gary, and his devoted partner and carer, David.
Gary was diagnosed with dementia at just 55, and their journey since has been filled with both quiet heartbreak and remarkable resilience. David recently sat down to tell their story — not just of dementia, but of a 32-year partnership built on love, laughter, walking holidays, jigsaw puzzles, and shared coffee mornings.
David spoke openly about the emotional weight of caring for someone you love, the slow and difficult changes, and the overwhelming reality of watching someone you know so deeply become confused, disoriented, and dependent.
He also spoke about joy — the joy of garden centres, handmade tapestries, and warm moments with Bluebird Care carers who now visit four times a day, offering support, relief, and comfort.
We are immensely grateful to David for bravely sharing their story. These conversations matter. They help break the silence around dementia, highlight the emotional reality of caregiving, and remind us why listening to people’s journeys is so important.
Thank you, David 💙 💙 💙
