Here’s a lovely story that reminds us why the simplest gestures often mean the most.
Recently, Donna, our Supervisor spent a few precious hours with Vera, one of our most cherished customers at 94 years young. Donna has a special bond with Vera, having supported her before stepping into her supervisory role. Despite the shift in her duties, Donna has always found time to visit and reconnect with Vera, who loves to share stories about her life, family, and even her chickens! Their chats are filled with warmth, laughter, and, on this occasion, a heartfelt promise.
Earlier this year, Vera was unwell and had to spend time in the hospital. During their conversations, she shared a craving she had for a hearty, comforting meal - thick cut ham, poached eggs, and buttered bread. Donna listened, knowing that she’d do whatever it took to bring a bit of comfort to Vera once she was home. When Vera was finally ready to leave the hospital, Donna kept her promise and prepared the simple but delicious meal Vera had been looking forward to.
The day they reunited, Donna arrived with everything she needed, including fresh eggs from our own chickens! Vera’s joy was priceless as she held the fresh eggs and watched Donna whip up the comforting plate she had been craving. Vera couldn’t stop smiling as she tucked into her lunch, savouring every bite and remarking,
“It’s such a simple plate of food, but just delicious.”
This small act of kindness highlights the strength of the connections we build with our customers. For Donna, going the extra mile is just a part of what she loves about her role. And for Vera, it was a heartwarming reminder that she is deeply cared for by people who cherish her stories, her laughter, and her love of good, honest food.
Thank you, Donna, for making Vera’s day and bringing such joy to all of us! Moments like these remind us all of the power of a simple promise and the warmth of a shared meal.
