Welcome to our Monthly Newsletter!

Welcome to the June edition of our quarterly newsletter. Here’s what's happening this month at Bluebird Care Luton.

Staying safe in the warm weather ☀️

With the weather getting warmer, it’s important to take extra care in the heat.

Here are a few simple tips to stay cool during the summer:

  • Stay hydrated, even if you’re not thirsty

  • Keep living spaces cool by closing curtains during peak sun hours and opening windows in the evenings when it’s cooler

  • Dress for the weather - wear light, loose clothing

  • Choose lighter meals - fresh foods such as salads and fruits can be easier to enjoy in the heat

  • Use sunscreen and try to avoid the midday sun

If you’re caring for an elderly loved one, please keep an eye out for signs of dehydration or heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, headaches or confusion. If you’re ever unsure, it’s always best to seek medical advice.

Smoke Alarm Safety and Smoking Awareness

Home safety is incredibly important, especially when it comes to preventing fire risks. We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you about the importance of keeping safe at home. Whether you live independently or support a loved one at home, here are a few reminders to help reduce risk.

Smoke alarm safety:

  • Make sure there is a working smoke alarm on each floor of your home

  • Test alarms regularly

  • Never remove batteries or cover the alarm

Smoking safely at home:

  • Avoid smoking indoors if possible

  • Always fully extinguish cigarettes

  • Keep lighters and matches well out of reach of children or vulnerable adults

If you need help checking your alarms or simply want advice on making your home safer, Bedfordshire Fire Rescue Service offer free home fire safety visits. These are available to everyone and are especially useful for older adults or those with limited mobility.

We’ve recently had a few customers let us know they’d benefit from adjusted visit times - whether it’s a slightly earlier morning call or a better fit around medication or meals.

We understand how important routine is, and where possible, we’ve been able to make these changes to better suit individual needs. Thank you to those who shared this with us - your feedback helps us to improve the care we provide.

If you have something you’d like us to consider, please feel free to get in touch.
