How we take care of our staff
Taking Care of Our People: Supporting Staff Wellbeing Every Day
At the heart of everything we do is our people. We believe that when we look after our staff, they are better able to look after the people who depend on them. Caring is a profession that demands empathy, patience, and resilience, and we know it isn’t always easy. That’s why we place such a strong focus on staff wellbeing and create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and able to thrive.
This month, with World Mental Health Day and the International Week of Happiness at Work both taking place, we are reminded of how important it is to check in with ourselves and each other. But for us, wellbeing isn’t something we mark once a year, it’s something we prioritise every single day.
Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace
We are proud to have trained Mental Health Wellbeing Officers within our team. These colleagues are there to provide support and reassurance when someone is struggling, whether that’s listening without judgement, signposting resources, or simply being a safe person to talk to. Mental health can sometimes feel like a difficult subject to raise at work, but we want to break down those barriers.
One-to-One Wellbeing for Our Carers
We recognise that our care professionals give so much of themselves every day. To make sure their own wellbeing is supported, we have a dedicated Carer Wellbeing Officer, Chloe Morgan, who holds regular one-to-one sessions with staff. These are private, informal opportunities for carers to share concerns, reflect on challenges, or simply take time out to be heard.
For many, these conversations make a huge difference. Whether it’s advice on managing stress, encouragement during a tough week, or just having someone listen, the feedback we receive is clear: being cared for as a professional helps our carers feel more confident, motivated, and connected in their roles.
Rewarding our Staff
Wellbeing isn’t only about support during challenging times, it’s also about finding ways to bring joy, connection, and laughter into the workplace. That’s why we run regular activities designed to boost morale, reward carers and remind our staff that work can and should be a positive place to be.
Some of the things we do include:
Monthly staff draws – a fun way to give back and bring a little excitement to the month.
Wellbeing walks and other social activities – encouraging time outdoors, light exercise, and meaningful conversations with colleagues.
Employee of the month – a small moment's gesture that recognises the hard work of our staff
Why Wellbeing Matters
Research consistently shows that happy, healthy staff are more engaged, motivated, and able to deliver exceptional work. For us, this isn’t just a nice idea, it’s a necessity. Our care professionals play an essential role in the lives of others, and to give the very best care, they must also feel cared for themselves.
By investing in staff wellbeing, we are:
Reducing stress and burnout.
Encouraging open conversations about mental health.
Building stronger, more supportive teams.
Creating a work environment where people want to be.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on World Mental Health Day and the International Week of Happiness at Work, we look ahead to how we will continue to support our staff. Supporting staff wellbeing will always be at the heart of who we are. We will continue to listen, adapt, and create new opportunities for our people to feel supported, valued, and happy at work.
Because when our staff thrive, so does the care we provide.
