Taking a trip to memory lane in York
Ahead of the national Memory lane campaign, we dived into the old memories in York. Finding out one of Sally's grandparents, took part in a major celebration in York and 50 years later, was recognised.
This picture was taken outside York minster on to celebrate VJ day. The tallest is my grandad, he joined the Navy for his national service. They were all strangers, they all linked arms and walked down the street

50 years later...
Taking a trip down memory lane, years later, three of the ladies in the image cam together to recreate the image, outside York Minister, part of our York territory. Seen in the newspaper, it was to celebrate 'VJ Day', It's a day to honor the sacrifices of the Allied forces, remember those who died in the war, and celebrate the restoration of peace.
As we look back on these cherished memories, the Memory Lane campaign reminds us of the power of history in shaping our present. Moments like these, of unity, remembrance, and shared experiences, connect generations and keep the past alive. As we honour VJ Day and the stories behind it, we celebrate not just history, but the people who lived it, ensuring their legacy continues for years to come.
